NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is primarily funded by the Australian Government. It is a major initiative designed to provide support to people with permanent and significant disabilities in Australia, ensuring they receive the necessary services and assistance to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

Federal Government (Commonwealth)

The Australian Government is the main funder of the NDIS. It allocates a significant portion of the funding through taxes and specific contributions. The Federal Government also works alongside state and territory governments to manage the scheme.

State and Territory Governments

In the initial stages of the NDIS, state and territory governments were involved in the funding and delivery of disability services. Although the Federal Government now primarily funds the NDIS, states and territories have continued to play a role in implementing the program locally, including in areas like housing and health services

NDIS Participants

While the NDIS covers most of the costs for disability services, participants might also contribute to some expenses, particularly for services that are considered "reasonable and necessary." However, the scheme is designed so that costs are minimised for the participants, with government funding covering most of the expenses for services.
